Terms of Service

1. About Insignia

Insignia is an AI-powered tool for the identification of military badges, medals and insignia, operated by Insignia B.V. i.o., based in the Netherlands. By using insignia.tools or the Insignia mobile application, you agree to these Terms of Service.

2. Entertainment Purposes Only

The AI-generated identification results are based on visual pattern recognition and a reference database. They may be incomplete, incorrect, or misleading. Factors such as image quality, lighting, condition, and regional variants can all affect accuracy.

Insignia is not a substitute for physical inspection by a qualified militaria expert, historian, or licensed appraiser. Before making any decision regarding the purchase, sale, or authentication of a military item, always consult a qualified professional in person.

3. No Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, Insignia B.V. i.o. and its operators, employees, and affiliates accept no liability whatsoever for:

• Any loss, damage, or harm arising from reliance on Insignia's identification results
• Financial loss resulting from decisions made on the basis of Insignia's output
• Incorrect identification of an item's country, regiment, campaign, period, or value
• Any legal consequences related to the ownership or transfer of militaria
• Interruption, errors, or unavailability of the service

You use Insignia entirely at your own risk.

4. Permitted Use

You may use Insignia for personal, non-commercial identification and research of military badges, medals and insignia. You agree not to:

• Use Insignia in connection with any illegal activity
• Submit images of items that are unlawfully possessed or prohibited
• Attempt to circumvent access controls, scrape the service, or reverse-engineer the AI model
• Resell, sublicense, or commercially exploit Insignia's output without written permission

5. Subscriptions & Refunds

Insignia offers paid subscriptions and credit packages. Payments are processed by Stripe and are subject to Stripe's terms.

Given the digital nature of the service, credits that have been used are non-refundable. For unused credits or subscription fees, refund requests may be submitted within 14 days of purchase by emailing hello@insignia.tools. Refunds are granted at our discretion.

EU consumers retain statutory rights under the Consumer Rights Directive, including a 14-day cooling-off period for digital services not yet accessed.

6. Intellectual Property

All content, branding, and technology on insignia.tools — including the AI model, reference database, and interface — is the property of Insignia B.V. i.o. and may not be copied, reproduced, or distributed without permission.

Images you submit remain your property. By submitting an image you grant us a limited licence to process it for identification purposes, and — if separately consented — to retain it for model improvement.

7. Availability

We aim to keep Insignia available at all times but do not guarantee uninterrupted access. We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue the service at any time, with reasonable notice where possible. In the event of discontinuation, unused paid credits will be refunded.

8. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms of Service. We will notify registered users of material changes by email at least 14 days before they take effect. Continued use of Insignia after that date constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.

9. Governing Law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Netherlands. Any disputes shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of the Netherlands, without prejudice to your rights as a consumer under local law.
